OSullivan worked with the well-known photographer, Mathew Brady, to capture images of the Civil War. The reason why I was drawn to this particular photograph, however, is because of the emphasis placed on the soldier lying on his back with his face upwards, pointing slightly towards the camera. His dead expression is v ery chilling. Another thing that drew me to this photograph is that you can see in the distance, the abundance of dead bes scattered across the war stricken field of operations which added to the chilling mood of the photograph.
